Enlivened by a riot of colors and a rich menu that spans Mexico, Peru, Cuba, Brazil & Argentina, La Boca could become one of Pavilion's hottest hangouts.
The setting is explosively eye-catching, like nothing else in this mall _ a fever-dream mishmash evocative of elements from an Andy Warhol painting, the animated film "Chico and Rita" & maybe even the bright-hued facade of homes on the Venetian Lagoon's Burano island.
But there's a catch: though La Boca's menu promises the likes of Brazilian seafood moqueca, Mexican tamale corncakes, Peruvian ceviche & Argentinean sorrentinos & pastel de choclo, none of those are available for now. Maybe later this month.
What's offered so far is nonetheless well-prepared; 'bolinho' cheese balls (RM22 before taxes), fried with chile ancho & coriander, will keep snack-lovers very happy.
Tallarines (RM28), the Argentinean equivalent of pasta. Fundamentally fettuccine in cream sauce with chicken, semi-dried tomatoes, mushrooms & basil coulis. Addictive.
Cuban Sandwich (RM24): turkey ham, breast & chorizo with emmenthal cheese & mustard relish in Cuban bread. Warm, fresh bread, flooded with flavorsome fillings. Irresistible.
Chicken breast, mangoes, avocados, red peppers & black beans (RM18). We finished every bite of this hearty, healthy salad.
Exclusively Latin American wines are available here: try the Argentinean Maipu Valley Luigi Bosca Sauvignon Blanc & Merlot (RM24 each).
Pisco Sour (pisco, egg white, lemon juice, angostura bitters) & Pompelmo soda.
La Boca has the potential to stand out in the Mexican gastronomic wave that's sweeping KL. We'll know for certain once its complete menu is available.
The restaurant seats fewer than fifty, so head here early in the evening for a comfortable table.

Hmmmm...this place looks deceivingly small when I walked past it...but based on ur trusty tastebuds...I will gave it a good ole try...haha =)
ReplyDeleteUlric: heh, it's a tiny outlet, but it has a very ambitious menu planned. crossing fingers that the ambition will translate into success =)
DeleteThis is part of the Fashion Avenue that was launched recently. Definitely checking this funky place. Mexican goodness here I come!
ReplyDeleteTake me! Pretty pls... =)
DeleteMissyblurkit: it might definitely become a 'fashionable' eatery at pavilion! and mexican food is totally in vogue this year, heheh :D
DeleteUlric: good luck =)
DeleteThe cheese balls looks really fluffy (bread-like!!). Sometimes, I feel that South American cuisine is very under-rated! hehe hopefully it will become more popular!! :D
ReplyDeleteVien: yeah, the cheese balls were a little doughy almost, but i think they're just right for snacking, heh =) and yeah, there's more to south american cuisine than mexican, and now's a good time to sample it! :D
DeleteI like how colourful they are. Will go and try the food when they start serving Brazilian seafood moqueca, Peruvian ceviche & the rest, hehe. :P
ReplyDeleteCK: ya, hopefully they'll start serving those items before you go on holiday in peru next month! then can compare, heheh. the outlet here seems to be run by south americans, so the food should be reasonably authentic, to a certain extent =)
DeleteTallarines looks very creamy.. I like creamy pasta..
ReplyDeletethe deco also very unique..
Simple Person: ya, this pasta and the cream went very well together. and yups, i love the decor. very different from other restaurants in pavilion :D
DeleteThat's comfort pasta! :D But the cheese balls a bit expensive la, no? -_-
ReplyDeleteBangsar-Babe: a nice pasta to munch on after a long weekday at work! :D ya, RM22+ for six cheeseballs might seem a bit steeply priced. i think RM16++ would have worked better =)
DeleteWe were here Friday night and danced the night away. It's quite the happening spot!
ReplyDeleteThe Yum List: oooh, i should head back here on a friday night then! i can't dance, but i love watching, heheh :D
DeleteWhat a colorful place!! I want cheese balls! :D
ReplyDeleteCiki: the colors are so vivid and vibrant, you'll love this place (and hopefully love their cheese balls!) :D
Deletewoah...this place is so COLORFUL!!
ReplyDeleteTallarines looks very creamy.
Melissa: the colors will attract a lot of customers and pull people inside, i think! :D heh, yeah, it's one of the creamiest pastas i had this year =)
DeleteYour first photo is beautiful, it's like painting. It's look big in your picture :) Noticed serving plates also in blue and earth colour. Love to sit on the bar if I'm alone ;)
ReplyDeleteSo many new restaurants coming up, no wonder you are busy :)
River: heh, thanks, this is one of those restaurants that makes me wish i used a better camera, so that i can capture the scene and the colors with more detail =) ya, even the plates are colorful, to fit into the theme and mood of the restaurant :D there are some more exciting restaurants opening this month, so no time to rest yet, heh :D
DeleteYa nice photos, what camera & model you use? After seeing your post, planned to visit here with friends on this coming Saturday for lunch. btw, do you have the contact number for this restaurant? :)
DeleteSunny: thanks! i use a small canon powershot point-and-shoot camera. hope you enjoy your lunch, yeah. the food sometimes take a bit long to arrive during lunch, so you might have to wait about 15-30 minutes for some dishes though. sorry, i don't have the contact number.
Deletei pass by everyday..wonder whether to try it out..now the cheese ball really makes me want to step in for tomorrow lunch!
ReplyDeleteCindy: it might be a nice lunch! try to check it out if you can find a comfortable table =)
DeleteThat Cuban sandwich looks brill! You cannot beat a good sandwich. Wonder how they'll manage being small in a very busy mall?
ReplyDeleteYouHadYourLunch: i had very low expectations for that sandwich, but you're right! i really totally enjoyed it, and it proved to me that a great sandwich makes a great meal, period! i think the lunch crowd here isn't really substantial so far, but they attract more people for dinner =)
DeleteWhen I look at these chairs, I can't help but feel that almost all the newly opened bistro/bar/cafe in town has the same chairs only in different colours. Gosh!
ReplyDeleteEiling: that's probably true! heh, i like that this place took the effort to paint their chairs :D
DeleteThe place is very unique and colourful and the tallarines looks very tempting. Think I'll give it a try this coming week =D
ReplyDeleteBenjamin: hope you enjoy it. the menu is very wide with a lot of dishes that are difficult to find elsewhere in KL :D
DeleteThink I will enjoy it alot, just by looking at the photos makes me hungry. Haha
DeleteBenjamin: heh, you'll definitely feel full after finishing a meal at la boca =)
Deletei like the place not only food but i also can dance salsa and bachata it so happening mate.
ReplyDeleteMichelle: oh yeah, a really lively place! :D
DeleteDo u know if they serve cuban coffee i.e cortadito here
ReplyDeleteFarzleen: I'm sorry, I didn't see that on the menu, but I believe they've expanded their selection since my last visit here =)
